In AR3, the options for wet or dry media have a combination of the following adjustments: size, thinners (opacity), pressure (size adjustment for brush tools)… and that seems like that’s it. In Painter, each tool has a combination of adjustments for: size (obviously), opacity, grain, viscosity, wetness, etc, etc, etc…. Though overwhelmed by all the options and tools and other adjustable settings in Painter, I find that it is better to have lots and lots of tools than to not have enough.įor me, the tools in AR3 simply do not have enough options. As I said, the tools are neatly laid out, but… ALL the tools are out, and in comparison to Painter, it’s not very many. Upon seeing it for the first time, I see that looks easy to navigate– the tools are laid out neatly as well as the color picker, each in their own corner. I downloaded a free trial of ArtRage 3 and decided to give it a try. I decided to try it out since it sounded like there were some features similar to Painter. I’m doing this for the sake of trying out some art programs.Ī commenter brought to my attention a program called ArtRage 3 (AR3) after viewing a piece of mine that I did in Corel Painter 11. And I will preface this by saying that I was not paid or compensated in any way by Corel or the makers of ArtRage 3. … I say versus in quotation marks because I’ve found that it’s pretty tricky to compare these two programs because they are different in many ways… Also, in no way do I intend for this to be a 100% complete, exhaustive, and even longer review about ArtRage 3 and some of its similarities with Corel Painter 11. ^ Added some green highlights! I used the chalk tool and oil pastel tool for this. (But the girl is not me!) The colors of the northern lights go perfect with the purple-ish colors in her hair and eyeshadow. I dreamed that I had opened my front door and the northern lights (aurora borealis, aurora) were going full force like what you see in the drawing. Then I remembered this dream I had a few nights ago.

I opened this drawing up today to finish it and had a flat gray background and didn’t know what to do with it. It’s better, but I’m still playing around with it! This was also some more practice on working my realistic style with Painter. I just feel better using a reference.Īnyways, I had started this drawing last weekend just for kicks right after I had done the no reference drawing. Here’s another Corel Painter painting/drawing! This time I used a reference and it seems like I can spend less time worrying about if it looks okay or not.
